Session 4 = Skill Building
It’s true that no matter how great our mastery in our chosen medium(s), there is always room to grow. Often times our work stagnates or fails to resonate when we are not challenging ourselves or seeing the next step. It’s “easy” to stay safe in the habits and patterns that actually may be working really well for us—we may have even found a “formula.” But what happens when we step outside of formula, habit, and the known? Here we’ll assess where and how we want to grow in our skills, while also acknowledging that building skill takes time—and some skills take a lifetime or are simply always evolving.
Creative Skills -
list out whatever creative skills you need for your work
circle any skills you feel may be looping in the same pattern
pick one skill that you want to focus on for the rest of this workshop and/or year
Example - for a musician, this could be a specific kind of guitar work, vocal agility or power, writing style, etc
Journal Exercise -
What draws me to want to grow this skill?
Where or from who might I learn more about this?
What resource, habit, or practice could I engage with today? (you can start small)
In a perfect world with no limitations, what would I be able to do, achieve, or create? Why does this matter to me?
How would it feel to embody this skill in a new, different, or expansive way?
